In this Tutorial Jake will be showing you how to create your own brushes so you don’t have to worry about all the copyright laws about using them in your work, also you may just need a specific brush, then this is tutorial for you.
step 1
To start with go to File new then for the best resolution for a brush choose 2500 x 2500 (or whatever your brush size is), then click OK.

next either copy or open your desired image you want to turn into a brush ( for example i have found a brush & ink image on sxc.hu and have used that for this demonstration) then paste it into the new canvas you made a few seconds ago.
step 3
Once that is done, go to Image > Adjustments > shadow/highlights, then set this to your desired amount, this will effect the transparency and look of the finished brush. It also helps if you make the image black and white by pressing ctrl + u to desaturate the image.
Step 4
Now your almost done, (if your not to happy with the image you have, make a few changes to it untill your happy with it, then come back to this step when your ready) all that’s left is to select the whole image ctrl+a then convert it into a brush, First go to Edit > Define Brush Preset > then name the brush and click OK.
Step 5
now if you view your brushes it should be the last one, why not try it out!
