Step 1

Open up start and go to Control panel.

Step 2

This tutorial is specifically for vista so if you are using XP the options may be different. You need to select “Administrative Tools”.

Step 3

Then select “Task scheduler”.

Step 4

When the window opens select “Create Task”.

Step5

Name the task whatever you want and then give it a description. If you want your computer to shutdown when logged off aswell you need to select the other tickbox option. Then move on to the next tab.

Step 6

When in “Triggers” select “New” this section is down to your preferences I have set the task up to shutdown every day at midnight. When you have finished in this section move on to “Actions”

Step 7

This tab programs the task. When in “Actions” tab select “New”.

Step 8

Make sure that Action is set to program then Type C:\Windows\system32\shutdown.exe. Then in Arguments Type /s this shuts down the whole system.

Step 9

Click “OK” to reurn to the scheduler, Clicking “OK” in the scheduler window will pop-up a new window. Insert all your account details into the boxes and click “OK” this will then activate the task and shutdown the computer.

Step 10

All windows that are open can now be safely shut.
